Iran finishes 3rd in IPC World Powerlifting Championships

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia - Iran finished in third place at the International Paralympic Council (IPC) World Powerlifting Championships on Friday.
Egypt won the championship with 72 points, China became runner-up scoring 66 points, and Iran was third with 64 points.Iranian junior lifter Siamand Rahman set a new Paralympics record in the event. He bettered the old record by lifting 285 kg. The previous record holder was another Iranian, Kazem Rajabi, who won the Men’s +100 kg Powerlifting gold medal with a result of 257.5kg during the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
A total of 484 athletes from 50 countries took part in the IPC Championships at the Kuala Lumpur Stadium in Titiwangsa, Malaysia.
Athletes in the event are preparing themselves for the London 2012 Paralympic Games where powerlifting is included as part of the Summer Games
